Most flooring quotes price the floor and stop there. Then the baseboards come off, the shoe molding will not go back the way it was, the old carpet has to go somewhere, and the number starts moving. At the visit we tell you which of these your house actually needs, and they go into the same written price. Material and labor, one number.

A new floor copies whatever is underneath it. If the subfloor is off, you feel it under your foot in the hallway for the next twenty years, and no brand of wood fixes that afterwards. This is the part of the job you will never see and the part that decides how it ages.

The planks click together easily, and that is not the hard part. The hard part is the subfloor, which has to be flat before anything goes down, and the cuts around doorways, stairs and islands, which is exactly where a floor starts to look homemade. A floor installed twice costs more than a floor installed once.
